2025 Flower Class
The Annual Flower, Vegetable, Produce & Craft Show is booked for Saturday 5th September 2026 from 1pm.

Thank you to everyone who supported us last year - the number of ENTRIES went up from 290>270; the number of ENTRANTS went up from 26>55; the number of NEW ENTRANTS went up from 3>17 and the number of CHILDREN'S ENTRANTS went up from 2>13.

A RESOUNDING SUCCESS - THANK YOU!

We would like to continue the UPWARD trend - and we have listened to your feedback from last year and this year will make sure that the Refreshments are charged at a more reasonable rate. We want this to be an affordable afternoon for all the family.

The VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE have kindly agreed to waive their fee for Hiring the Hall for 2 days, and this year any profits will be split 50/50 between the VILLAGE HALL and VILLAGE GREEN - 2 valuable parish assets.

2025 Potato bucket weigh in.

HOW ARE YOUR POTATOES IN A BUCKET DOING?

Almost 60 parishioners came and collected a seed potato and bucket back in April keen to see which one of them will yield the biggest crop.

If growing potatoes is new to you check out some advice from RHS here https://www.rhs.org.uk/vegetables/potatoes/grow-your-own

And keep an eye out for BLIGHT - once your potatoes have flowered the tops should be cut off after the foliage has died back, typically when the leaves turn yellow and wilt, to encourage the tubers to mature and develop a good skin set. Then leave them in the bucket until JUDGING DAY!

Scarecrow Class

Several parishioners have asked if we can re-instate the Scarecrow Class for this year's show.

So, if you have a place that can be seen from the public highway and want to enter - just let me know marion174@btinternet.com or 01837 82285 and I will print you a label to put next to your Scarecrow.

We will then print a "Scarecrow Trail" and publish on Facebook for locals and visitors to follow and vote on their top 3 Scarecrows.

The Winners will be announced at the Flower Show.

Net of poppies

Poppy Net for Remembrance Day in the Square

Another suggestion from a parishioner was to try and get people to knit, crochet, felt poppies that can be sewn onto a net to drape over the steps beside the War Memorial in the square to add to our Remembrance Day services.

There is a pattern for both a crochet and knitted version below if you want to join in; or feel free to use your own pattern.

They can be entered in the Poppy Class at the Flower Show - or just handed in to Marion to sew onto the net before November 11th 2026.

How do those new to exhibiting know how to present their entries?

Please check out the draft Schedule below which gives you some tips on how to present your exhibits.

Most judges use the RHS handbook rules for Vegetables, Flowers & Plants.

Craft and Produce is usually judged using the WI Guidelines.

Over the coming weeks I will endeavour to cover some of the rules for specific classes to give you all some guidelines and hopefully encourage more of you to "have a go".

General Guidance for Craft exhibits.

Have a look at what the WI Guidance is for all crafts and over the next few weeks I will add specific guidance for the classes we already include in our schedule.

The New Year is a good time to start working on crafts for the Show.
